A small tomato plant my mother gave me sits beyond the doors of my office on the deck. It’s enjoying the sun, fluttering lightly as it grows. It is a life force, right in front of me, born of a seed, nurtured by light, soil and rain. I am connected to this life force as the summer heat wafts in through the screened door. The pollen scented air, my new plant and my summer resolve to be healthy have me brimming with a desire to eat well.
